University of Nairobi Students with Disabilities Association (UNSWDA).
University of Nairobi Students with Disabilities Association is an association with a vision of uniting Students with disabilities, championing for their rights and promoting their interests that are geared towards integration in the University Community and acquisition of professional skills that make them globally competitive.
The key objectives of the association include:
- To lobby for access to educational facilities for students with disabilities and to ensure that they are fully integrated in the university.
- To help students with disabilities get job placements and attachments vis-à-vis securing job opportunities by partnering with the private sector and working hand in hand with the University Administration.
- To champion for expository seminars in and out of the institution with an aim of nurturing and developing professional skills among students with impairment in the university.
- To promote awareness within and outside the university with the aim of full integration and acceptance of students with disabilities by the entire fraternity of the university.
- To promote welfare of students with disabilities within the university including reasonable accommodation, mobility and; learning aids pursuant to article54 of the constitution.
- To be proactive in ensuring the full implementation of university disability mainstreaming policy.
Membership is open to students with disabilities enrolled at university of Nairobi and affiliate members as defined by the constitution of the association. The current chairperson of the association is Solomon Odhiambo of School of medicine.
